Download Whisper and drag it into Applications. Allow Microphone and Accessibility so it can listen and paste.
The first-launch detailsGet an API key from Groq and save it in Whisper’s Settings. Your key is stored in your Mac’s Keychain.
Get a Groq API keyPut your cursor where you want the words. Hold Fn and talk. Release to transcribe, then watch your text arrive.
That’s your new workflow.Your Mac records. Groq transcribes. Audio is sent to Groq when you finish speaking. An internet connection and your own API key are required; Groq’s usage limits and pricing apply.
A Mac running macOS 13 or later, an internet connection, and a Groq API key. Whisper also needs Microphone permission to record and Accessibility permission to paste into your apps.
Whisper pastes into the focused text field in apps such as Slack, Notes, Mail, and your browser. If an app prevents automatic pasting, your text is available on the clipboard so you can paste it with Command + V.
Whisper is free to download. You bring your own Groq API key for transcription and optional AI cleanup. Groq’s service has its own usage limits and pricing; check your Groq account for the details.
Your recording is saved locally while you speak. After you stop, it is uploaded to Groq for transcription. If AI cleanup is enabled, the transcript is also sent to Groq for correction. Whisper removes its temporary audio file after the transcription request finishes.
Yes. Tap Fn to start hands-free recording, then press Fn again or click the stop button to finish and paste. Escape cancels. Enter finishes, pastes, and sends an Enter key to the target app.
Yes. AI correction is optional and can be turned off in Settings. You can also choose a transcription language or let Whisper detect it. Personal dictionary rules and spoken punctuation still apply.
